How to follow news live from Tehran

LONDON — It’s certainly a phenomena.  Someone smarter than me (my old colleague Steven Noble) has passed on this link (click here) to all Twitter messages coming from within 15 miles of Tehran.  It’s very interesting reading.  All in English.

I have no doubt that parties on both sides will look at this.  One fellow I followed over the weekend suddenly changed his name.

I don’t see anything from Twitpic yet… which would really be the key application for western media to pick this up.  It’s quite hard to tell how much is actually going on.

But it does raise really interesting questions about communication in the modern world… wherever you are!

  • UPDATE: Interestingly enough there’s now this suggestion in the posts: “Change your twitter location to Tehran and your time zone to GMT +3.5. This helps shield #IranElection and confuse their security police.” Which is amusing in a strange way, because we’re now getting random posts through about going out to get the laundry in Idaho!

  • UPDATE: Among the interesting thing coming out of Iran… media savvy young people (50% of Iran is under 25) can see through altered photos in Tehran papers: http://bit.ly/NpibJ
    ‘Photoshopped’ in modern parlance.
    Interesting.

  • Copies of a letter were being widely passed around this week. It was allegedly an actual account of the results. In spite of what is being said inside Iran about outside interference, this letter wasn’t reported on by most major outside news organisations. http://bit.ly/NNccr

  • Graphic images and videos can be found from Twitter links through #iranelection (go to Twitter.com and click on right hand side) and on YouTube. Not for the faint hearted. I couldn’t watch.
